The Evacuee Collection

By 1941 rationing for clothing was a very real part of life and children’s clothing had to be practical and hard wearing – this meant the same garment needed to be suitable for everyday and special occasions. In a slight departure from the other collections we feature two uniforms – that would have been worn by adults – to show how important the different roles at home were to the war effort.

Evacuee Boy

The knitted vest top has been printed onto the fabric to give the effect of layering. Worn with the shorts provided – or school shorts and a blazer, this gives a sense of the dual purpose needed for children’s clothing during WWII. Remember to comb the hair and slick it with gel for that groomed look!
